Early Childhood Education

Early Childhood Education is the Formative years of a child’s life where education leaves an indelible effect paving a way for the future course. This is a very critical period with very high rate of development of the brain’s potential. It is researched that the 90% of the brain develops by the time the child reaches the primary school. And we quote Bill gates – ‘The first five years have so much to do with how the next eighty turn out’. Thus the foundation is laid for the cumulative lifelong learning and human development.

The SamSidh  Mount Litera Zee deeply values this stage and facilitates optimum development of a child’s potential in a conducive environment. It provides activities and/or experiences that are intended to effect developmental changes in children prior to their entry into elementary school. We give exposure and opportunities to experiment with a variety of experiences, objects and places, prospects for meaningful interactions with adults and peers and unbridled emotional security and support!!

The Curriculum

A well-researched curriculum is developed which matures the following domains for the holistic development of each and every child:

  • Language
  • Aesthetic
  • Cognitive
  • Physical
  • Social, Emotional and Personal
  • Environmental Sciences
The Day at Samsidh MLZS Pre-primary

A set of learning goals for each learning area has been defined and the child is facilitated to reach to the goal by the end of Kindergarten. Care is taken to cover all the domains in an interactive and fun filled manner for the overall growth of the child.

The assessment is continuous and ongoing and the child is assessed only after completing all the milestones in a subject. If a child is absent one day, he continues from where he left unlike in the old system where the child had to learn on his own what he missed out on. Each and every child is given undivided attention as we have 1:10 teacher student ratio. The child is encouraged to grow at his/her own pace.

Integrated Curriculum

A sneak a peek into a child’s day at MLZS Pre – Primary Premises

I love to come to school every day as the teacher welcomes me with a big smile and a bear hug. I like to sit with my friends in the ‘Circle Time Corner’ and meet the class puppet ‘Dholak’ who tells us about various things.
During this time we enjoy singing poems and learn to listen to each other. I wait for my turn to speak and eagerly wait for ma’am to tell us a new story. Sometimes it is very interesting when ma’am shows some magic tricks!!

The day at Samsidh MLZS pre-primary sections begins with an emotional touch of bonding between the students and the teachers. The teachers are ready at the doors of their respective classes to greet the children with a smile and a handshake. The handshake is just not a social gesture, it permeates a feeling of “I am there for you” for the child by the teacher.

The children then follow the routine of removing the shoes, placing the bag in the cubicles and so on followed by a free play. The day starts with a free play where the classroom is divided into 4 corners as per “Illume”(zee curriculum for pre-primary).

Free play helps the children to enhance their motor skills and channelize the energy in a productive way while waiting for their peers to join them. It also inculcates the habit of sharing in children.

Assembly an integral part to start the day is well structured with warm-up exercise, a prayer song, zee anthem, value anthem and the national anthem. After the prayer the children do the calendar activity by changing the day, date, weather condition and so on.

The class then proceeds towards the circle time. The opening of the circle time happens with a casual talk between the teachers and the students where the teacher initiates a few questions on the topic of the day eg; transport, flowers and so on.

The discussion then leads to the merging of the day’s topic where the children are led from the path of “known to unknown”. Here the facilitator uses a lot of teaching aids like flash cards, charts, 3D models to make the learning interesting and suffice the learning style of the children which can be visual, audio and kinesthetic.

The children are then facilitated towards reading. They are taught to phonetically break the word and reiterate  the usage of vowels, blends, diagraphs and so on to ease the process of reading.

The children are timely introduced to the math concepts with a lot of hands on activities. The children of nursery use spindle box, abacus and counting cards to strengthen their math and logical skills.

In an effort to enhance the numerical and logical skills and introduce the concept of money the children are taught the name of the Indian currency (as per the topic) and the different denominations of money. The children were exposed to a hands-on –activity to reinforce the concept in a better way.

Pre-school is all about all colors, clay and crayons which are not just mere material but a magical element in a child’s life. To strengthen the motor skills, to have good body coordination and to arouse the tactile experience of children a scrap activity is conducted which are theme based, mainly concentrating on the festivals of India.

The tiny tots are not far from technology. They are exposed to a visual and audio medium of learning through power point presentations, short films etc which will help them learn the complex concepts in a simpler and an enjoyable manner because they may forget what they hear but what they see remains in their memory for a longer time.

Our school plays a major role in developing the personality of a child. One of the major challenges faced in the society these days is to develop moral values. “Advice works to a certain extent but stories with messages are more effective”. Also if a story is narrated using puppets it does wonders. It develops curiosity in children, develops the communication skills and the valuable thoughts can be conveyed in a subtle and an effective form.

“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. Physical activities are a must for proper growth and development of children.

Sports and outdoor play strengthens their muscles and bones, develops their gross motor skills. It creates an opportunity to explore their physical capabilities. They learn to make choices and playing with their peers help in developing their inter-personal skills.

It is a well known fact that healthy food is essential for proper growth and development of children. Children in their formative stage should be introduced to healthy food. As the kindergarteners value their facilitator’s words we conscientiously strive to inculcate the healthy eating habits in children and recommend a healthy diet for the children.

Safety is a top priority at our school and we ensure that no child is left alone without any supervision. There are cameras at the vantage points. The home time or the dispersal time is well structured with all safety measures under surveillance. The teachers accompany the children to the bus, place them properly and mark the attendance to avoid all room for any confusion and regression. A female adult always accompanies the children in the bus.
